First Ledger activation works best as a simple sequence: open Ledger Wallet from a known entry, follow the hardware screen, record the recovery phrase offline, then return to the app for connection and account-view checks. Keeping that order helps the setup remain readable.

Begin with the Ledger Wallet app entry
Before powering through setup prompts, confirm the Ledger Wallet app entry and installation environment. The app entry is covered in the Ledger Wallet download guide. Once the entry is clear, the activation flow can move to the hardware screen.
Follow the hardware screen for PIN and setup prompts
Use the device screen as the active instruction point. Create and confirm the device PIN on the hardware screen, then continue only after the current prompt is complete. If a more granular first-use path is needed, compare this article with the first-time initialization flow.
Record the recovery phrase offline in order
When the device shows the recovery phrase, write it down in order and keep the record offline. Do not type it into Ledger Wallet, a browser, a phone note, or a chat window. The phrase boundary is explained further in the recovery phrase guide.
Finish with app connection and setup notes
After backup is recorded, return to Ledger Wallet and check whether the device is recognized and the relevant account or app pages open. Keep a short setup note with the date, app version, device model, and completion state. For final checks after initialization, use the post-initialization checklist.
