The Ledger PIN is for unlocking the current device. It is not the recovery phrase, and it should not be treated as a backup record. When setting or changing a PIN, read the device screen first, then keep the PIN boundary separate from recovery phrase storage.
Set the PIN during device setup
During initialization, the device asks the user to create and confirm a PIN on the Ledger screen. For the first power-on flow, compare with setting a Ledger PIN after power-on. The PIN should be memorable to the user but should not be written where it is visible with the device.
Keep PIN and recovery phrase roles separate

Change the PIN from a known unlocked state
Change the PIN only after the device is already unlocked and the user understands the current device state. After changing it, lock and unlock once to confirm the new PIN is remembered correctly. Treat that check as a device-state review, not as a recovery phrase task.
